Theo Jansen Mechanism Project Using SolidWorks

Purpose

The objective of this project was to design a functional Theo Jansen walking mechanism using SolidWorks. The goal was to demonstrate proficiency in SolidWorks by creating a detailed, precise assembly that replicates the unique motion of the Theo Jansen mechanism.

Overview

The project started with importing and analyzing a reference STEP file to understand the mechanism's components. The initial assembly involved sketching base components and building individual parts, ensuring proper mating and alignment. Features like drafts, fillets, and additional details were added. Motion analysis and simulations were conducted to fine-tune the movement, making necessary adjustments for smooth operation. The project concluded with final tweaks, saving, and ensuring the assembly's functionality.

Results

The project resulted in a detailed and functional Theo Jansen walking mechanism. It demonstrated advanced modeling and assembly skills in SolidWorks, showcasing best practices in creating a complex assembly. The final design operated smoothly, successfully replicating the characteristic walking motion of the Theo Jansen mechanism.
